Introduction

The GW300 LG is quite a rare bird: it packs a full QWERTY keyboard and looks like a BlackBerry, but it has a completely different line of business. Even if it was designed with teens and tweens in mind, we would not be surprised if their mother has fallen for her too.

Social networking services are in vogue these days the manufacturers of mobile phones and have duly noted. The LG KS360 has been among the first devices to race mobile social network specifically targeting the youngest among us.

Things would have looked better for the GW300 if it came with 3G support and a better camera (2 megapixel fixed focus is a real blast from the past). Wi-Fi would have been an even better remedy for data-hungry Facebook application that needs access to nearly constant to the Internet.

And even the application of single note on the GW300 - the Facebook - is underdeveloped lack support real push. You must manually update the flow instead of Facebook for news of when they occur. If we guess the buttons has been activated, the data traffic generated would have scared the life out of paying the bill. And let's face it, it's more than likely going to be the parent of a user rather than the user themselves, then maybe it was a wise decision.

As you can see, sometimes you see things from a different angle, before drawing conclusions. And in this context, we will move GW300 LG and see if this is the right phone for you (or your child).

The GW300 LG comes in variations of different colors - black, blue, red, orange, pink (some of them are dependent on the market or operator). Regardless of the color version, the phone looks really nice (apart from the odd round knobs below the display, which are surprisingly comfortable).

The 2.4 "256K-color screen 320 x 240 pixel resolution takes half of the front. It is bigger than most screens of its competitors and offers image quality of Nice. And fortunately, Unlike LG's touchscreen equipped devices, displaying good sports GW300 (but not excellent) readability in sunlight
LG GW300It's a little crowded in the screen of GW300 with all these 6 buttons plus the D-pad tower. The aesthetics of the key design may be questionable, but they are extra thumbable and provide an exceptional user experience. We can only complain about the small buttons Call / End.

LG GW300 LG GW300 LG GW300LG GW300 has a very friendly four-row QWERTY keyboard with great touch orientation. The keys will behave exactly like the Nokia E71. The backlight even guarantees hassle-free typing in the dark and there's even a dedicated shortcut to composing a message.

We did not have a Nokia E71 available at the Office during our time with the GW300, but we managed to shoot some pics face to face with the E72

On the left is the volume rocker and microSD slot. The phone must support up to 4 GB card, however, our unit has treated a 16GB microSD card hassle-free. A plastic lid covers the card slot to keep dirt and grime.

On the right side there is a camera shutter key. This is not really necessary because the camera does not autofocus and D-pad would have been sufficient.

The standard 3.5mm audio jack and the microUSB port is at the top of the device. The microUSB port is used for both data transfers and charging through the passage LG global portfolio on more standardized connector.

The GW300 LG is expected to provide up to 5 hours of talk time and 400 hours standby. In reality, it has remained operational for 3 full days.

We are pleased with the ergonomics of GW300 LG, especially with the QWERTY keyboard. The GW300 looks a bit cheap, but its build quality overall is very good. The only cause of complaint is the quiet squeak produced by the battery cover.

User Interface: LiveSquare comm manager is nice

The GW300 was the latest Flash-based interface not touch LG. The interface has a nice lot of animations and transition effects. However, the best part of this is the LiveSquare, we have seen in a couple of the touchscreen-equipped LG handsets.

The interface is generally quick and responsive enough. We have encountered some serious lag of a number of times, but the culprit turned out to be our full 16GB memory card. Obviously, LG have noticed this as well and that is why they recommend using the card only up to 4GB

The home screen LiveSquare is one of the few significant improvements over previous versions of the LG feature phone user interface. The LiveSquare is essentially a log of all your recent communications. They are displayed on the screen in several different layouts. You can set the background as a zoo or park, inhabited by small human or animal by informing you of events missed or received calls and messages.

The number of messages (or other events such as incoming calls and emails) is displayed in a little bubble next to each figure. There's even such figures for events from contacts not in your repertoire.

You can also set LiveSquare to reset every day, so you'll see that communication today. By using the gray button on the bottom left you can access a complete communications history.

The menu system is simple, but decently organized and generally very usable. The main menu consists of a 3 x 4 grid of icons or a list according to your preferences.

The GW300 has a task manager that allows you to run multiple Java and native applications simultaneously and switch effortlessly between them.

The task manager on the GW300 has a launcher "dedicated" button on the keyboard beside the call button.

Phonebook is great

The ability of the directory proposed by the GW300 LG is up to 1000 contacts, each with its complete details. You can organize contacts into caller groups and you can also assign a personal photo (including a character for LiveSquare) and a tone.

There are lots of available fields for each contact on your list - You start with fourteen areas, but once you enter a number or e-mail, an additional field of the same type available.

You can also add a note to a contact. When you enter the birthday field, you can also have the phone put the date in the calendar as a reminder.

If you do not want to go through all the contacts to reach those beginning with "Z" for example, you use the search box above.

You can choose to display the SIM and phone contacts separately and together in one list.

However, the dial SMART is quite useless since it only searches for contacts whose numbers contain the digits you have typed. This is not very useful, because most people do not care to memorize the numbers of their contacts as they know their names.

The GW300 LG has received an excellent rating in our test performance loudspeaker
